Results of our 2nd Annual Cut-A-Thon

On Sunday, October 16, 2011 The Jill Foundation held it's 2nd Annual Cut-A-Thon at Artistic Hair. It is with a humble heart that I post the results. We are so grateful to many because it takes a wonderful team of individuals who give of their time and money to support The Jill Foundation. I am pleased to announce that our hairstylists did 139 haircuts between 9am-3pm. With our raffle we raised over $9.000.00. We are very excited to take TJF to the next level. We are sharing about TJF with other salons and letting them know that we now have the resources to give financial help to hairstylists in Orange in the event that they have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 2nd Annual Cut-A-Thon October 16, 2011

Come get a shampoo, haircut & join in the fun at our 2nd Annual Cut-A-Thon to benefit the Jill Foundation. The Jill Foundation was created to honor the memory of Jill Kester who lost her life to breast cancer over 6 years ago. The Jill Foundation is a non-profit organization that will financially help hairdressers in the City of Orange that have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Local businesses and clients have generously donated gifts to be raffled and winners do not need to be present to win. Raffle tickets are sold at the salon before and during the event. Additional donations and gift baskets are welcomed. All funds generated from haircuts, raffle and tips will be donated to The Jill Foundation (Tax ID #26-2684260). First Annual Open House August 7, 2011

Results of Ruby's Diner Fundraiser for the Jill Foundation

We would like to thank everyone who came out to Ruby's Diner to support The Jill Foundation. It was a huge success. In the week of our fundraiser we ate $1,500.00 worth of food. Ruby's Diner sent TJF a check for $301.00. Thank you again for believing in our cause. First "Cut for the Cure" raises over $4,000 for The Jill Foundation

Thank you to our families, friends, clients and first time visitors to The Jill Foundation's 1st Cut for the Cure and thank you to all of you who donated a gift to our raffle. We raised over $4,000.00 and did over 128 haircuts bringing our total for the year close to $12,000.00 for The Jill Foundation. We are excited to share The Jill Foundation with our industry and we are looking forward to other salons joining us in 2011. This foundation was created to honor the memory of Jill Etzold Kester. Jill losther battle to breast cancer 6 years ago. It was her wish to have a foundation that could help hairdressers in the City of Orange who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. We are very close to making her wish come true. The Jill Foundation

Thirteen years ago Artistic Hair decided to do something to give back. We chose breast cancer as our cause. Over the past 13 years we have held a Cut a Thon and have raised over $100,000.00 which we donated to The American Cancer Society. Five years ago we lost our friend and co-worker, Jill Kester, to breast cancer. She was a Mom of two beautiful daughters, a wife, a daughter, a sister, an auntie and a best friend. Three years ago we started working on developing our own foundation. What could we do to help hairdressers deal with this devastating disease? In many cases when a hairdresser is sick and unable to work they have no sick leave, no paid vacations, no medical insurance. So we decided that with the money we raise at our Cut a thons we would be able to give some financial help to hairdressers diagnosed with breast cancer, hence The Jill Foundation. We are very excited to start our fundraisers and create excitement within our industry. We know everyone loves their hairdresser and our clients are very excited to help however they can. We held our Cut for the Cure and raised $4,843.00

Thank you so much to all who participated in our 13th Annual Cut for the Cure. This event could not be possible without everyone's help. It takes a team to create an event like this. Thank you to Artistic Hair's hairdressers, Amanda, Crissy, Cherie, Laura, Marlene, Nicole, Colleen and Tracey for doing over 130 haircuts that day. Thank you to Julie, our manicurist for making the day flow. Thank you to Eric, our make up artist who did a wonderful job running the raffle. Thank you to our volunteer, Ashley, who greeted all the people who came to the salon that day. Thank you to California Hair Academy for sending their students to do all the shampoos. Thank you to Lori from First Escrow who let us use their parking lot. Thank you to Roundtable Pizza for providing lunch for all of us. Thank you to all who donated gifts for our raffle and a special Thank you to my granddaughter Ruby, my husband, Calvin and Jill's best friend Derek for helping where ever help was needed. And most of all thank you to all the supporters of this event. It warms my heart every year to meet the people who have been touched by breast cancer because they come with the hope that some day this disease will be eradicated.

Artistic Hair's 13th Annual Cut for the Cure will be held at the salon on Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Nolasco and her staff will be asking for a $15.00 donation for a shampoo & haircut (no appointments will be taken). We need your help to contact as many people as possible to reach our goal of $13,000.00. This year as in the past many of our clients and local businesses will be donating gifts to be raffled off the day of the Cut for the Cure. Raffle tickets are $1.00 and can be purchased at the salon. Any gift donations or baskets for our raffle can be taken to the salon or we will be happy to pick them up. All funds generated from the raffle, haircuts, and tips will be donated to the American Cancer Society to help bring this disease to an end.

Donations like one year free Direct TV donated by Rick and Karen Purpura, an X-Box donated by Duane and Lisa Martin, Dinner for Eight at the Magic Castle donated by Michael and Barbara Varma and all the other generous donations made our event that much more special. I would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time like CA Hair Academy in Orange, who did all the shampooing, sweeping and helped in any way they could. Dollars raised through this program help fund groundbreaking breast cancer research, provide up-to-date cancer information and education, advocate for public policies that benefit the community, and provide services that improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
